Fighting Your Slowing Metabolism
Many people know the unfortunate situation they’ll be facing when they age. Their metabolism slows down when they get older and they’ll notice that losing weight is no longer as easy as it used to be. If you are starting to notice that you are steadily gaining pounds even if your diet and exercise level has not changed, you may already be experiencing a slow down with your metabolism. This, however, does not have to be the end of the world. If there were no solution to this problem, then we would definitely see everyone in the aging community getting bigger.
Therefore, you do not have an excuse if you were to become complacent and simply accept weight gain. There are a number of ways you can help rev up your waning metabolism. First of all, you have to understand what metabolism is. In its most basic definition, it is all of the chemical and physical processes that occur within your body and that are necessary to sustain life. There is a close relationship between weight loss and metabolism. In fact, these chemical and physical processes require energy. To have some energy to burn, you need calories in your system. Every function in your system utilizes those calories in order to work properly. Even if you didn’t do anything but eat and breathe, you’d still need some sort of battery power to make these movements possible. If you were to lead a more active lifestyle, you’d need additional calories. Obviously, you’d require more if you had to do more than the usual work.
You can simply look into improving your metabolism with diet changes. Of course you must first consult your doctor to be able to do this properly. If you are one to enjoy constant snacking, it would be better to divide your diet into six mini meals spread throughout the day. Why is this better? Well, since digestion requires calories, you will only be able to enjoy the benefit of burning calories with the number of meals you’ve made. Dividing your meals into smaller and more frequent ones means that you are requiring your digestive system to work more than usual. It also allows you to better use and to effectively absorb your nutrients because your body can only take in a small amount with each meal. When you consume too much in one sitting, you are just storing the excess in your body.
A common misconception is that there are foods that burn fat better than others. This could not be further from the truth. Some foods may speed up metabolism, but they do not cause weight loss. What is most important is that you carefully select what you eat. Choosing whole grains and fiber-rich foods gives you more energy for digestion. Exercise can also do a lot of good for you. Not only do you burn calories, you also enjoy an additional expenditure of calories as your body cools down from a strenuous session.
You should be in control of your life and your body. Taking action is one way to enjoy your body even as you age. Your life will quickly turn for the better and you will begin to reap the benefits of the new you with a bit of discipline and initiative.
It seems as if getting wrinkles is so much easier these days. Whether it’s your lifestyle, the environment, or basic genetics, there is no clear cause to this dilemma. Wrinkles may be a sign of wisdom, or the fact that you have seen yourself through a lot in your life. But wrinkles or not, these are never welcome. As you see beautiful people on your TV screen, you become more self-conscious about your flaws. Oftentimes, you just want to throw out your boob tube and shut the world out.
It is often said that the first impression is made in the first three seconds upon meeting a person. Sometimes, initial impressions are difficult to change, especially if that person has made a negative impact. Because that person is a virtual stranger, you don’t worry about the underlying causes for their dour disposition. You just let things slide and go about not liking them. But what if you were that person who does not impress people at first sight? What impression do you want to create when you meet people for the first time?
